This project required a solution for wood shear walls that were offset from each other too much to provide enough resistance to lateral loads. To solve this problem, horizontal steel moment frames at the 1st floor wall top plate connected the shear wall segments together, combining the shear strength of the short segments enough to allow for the large windows.
